Wednesday Ventures
On Wednesday, August 5th, CYC campers and staff participate in a variety of community service projects (Ventures). We have a number of sites with differing endeavors. Please read about each site and rank your top three interests. Preference will be given to third years campers, however, we will try to accommodate what we can.
Most of the groups leave right after breakfast. Some of the groups are local, within walking distance and those groups are back on campus for lunch in the dining hall. Other groups are out of the area and those groups bring a picnic lunch, returning shortly after lunch for afternoon free time.

Local Venture sites:

1. Oceanwood - Stay on-site and help make our camp facility with a project that gives back to our community and hosts.

2. Ocean Park Association - Help clean up the boardwalks to the beach! The Ocean Park community is very appreciative when we help with this particular project mid-summer!

3. The Pines PROJECT- a retirement community within walking distance to camp. Help with gardening or painting projects to help beautify their environment.

4. The Pines RESIDENTS- a retirement community- an opportunity to interact with the residents- either through conversation, song or games/activities.

5. The Linus Project - help make fleece blankets for ill and underprivileged children. (On-site).
6. Kamp Kids - Reading, playing, and caring for small children can be very rewarding for both the care-giver and for the free time provided to parents. Join us as we give back to some of our young parents' families by caring for their children!

Off-site Venture sites:

6. Laudholm Land Trust - a conservation park in Wells, ME. Help with trail-clearing at this beautiful nature reserve! Bring your camera....photo ops abound!

The CYC Academic Program
The main purpose of the CYC Academic Program is to develop committed followers of Jesus Christ. Some of our related purposes are:
  • to inspire students to know more about God
  • to give students skills to learn more and to grow
  • to build a Christian community
  • to equip students to live out the faith
Exciting classes, high-quality teachers who love youth, and a curriculum centered on Christ make the Academic Program at CYC an enriching experience. Students choose from a wide variety of options to fulfill the graduation requirements and enjoy this adventure in learning. Each student takes two conference-long courses per year and also participates in seminars on Saturday.

Graduation Requirements: Each student must complete a Bible overview class, an introduction to the Christian faith course called “Starting Point” and one course centered on spiritual growth and living out the faith. Annually, each camper must also take two one-hour seminars or one two-hour seminar on Saturday morning.

Course Categories:

  1. Knowing the Bible (Old and New Testament)
  2. Spiritual Growth/Starting Point
  3. Growing and Living Out the Faith, including Leadership
Students are required to take one class from each of the categories, with emphasis on the first two categories in the first two years. They may take courses from other categories, however. Third-year students are required to take a Living Out the Faith class. There are Living Out the Faith Classes that are designated specifically as Leadership classes. A Leadership class will support the concept of women in church leadership. One aspect of this class will be to encourage students to seek God’s direction in terms of vocation, and students who feel that they may be called to professional Christian service will be encouraged to take the class. Therefore, it is our goal that each year at least one of the teachers will be an ordained pastor or commissioned missionary.

Saturday Seminars:
Students must participate in six hours of Saturday seminars over their three years at CYC. These courses will range from outreach, to Biblical application, to interest-based fun or exercise courses. They are offered as stand-alone one or two hour courses. The purpose of this configuration is to give students a solid foundation on which to base an active faith. In choosing their courses, students are encouraged to consider their own interests and gifts.

CAMPERS! Upon receipt of an email from me, please make your choices on this form. You do not have to be logged into gmail to do it. Please answer ALL questions and then hit submit at the end! I will be giving you a schedule with your classes on it at registration on Sunday 8/2/15!

It is essential to one of our programs that all campers and staff take this survey. Campers, complete this at the time of course registration! Thank you!
